How to remove a password from a PDF
A password on a document you receive every month stops being protection and starts being friction: you retype it to read it, to print it, to attach it to something else. Taking it off once, on a copy you keep, is usually the right answer.

Two different locks, often confused
An open password encrypts the file: without it, nothing can read the document at all. A permissions password leaves the document readable but marks it as not to be printed, copied or edited.
The second is enforced by convention rather than by cryptography — readers honour it because they choose to — which is why it comes off without anything being typed. The first genuinely cannot be removed without the password.
